Responsible for maintaining safety, quality and productivity on all machinery and facilities. Responsible for the execution of the Preventative Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance Program: perform repairs, upgrades, rebuilds and preventive maintenance on all machinery. Familiar with a variety of manufacturing floor concepts, practices and procedures. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the direct oversight, training, development and support of our maintenance staff.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:
Provides leadership and direction to the Maintenance Team and inspire high performance through effective goal setting and performance measurement
Oversees and manages the maintenance budget including equipment costs and analysis of ROI
Identifies facility contractor needs, and negotiates contracts with product vendors and service providers.
Develop maintenance procedures and ensure implementation
Properly identifies failed or worn components and utilizes available resources to obtain replacements
Oversees day-to-day activities of the Maintenance Department
Effectively coordinates, plans and executes the Preventive Maintenance Program
Carry out inspections of the facilities and equipment to identify and resolve issues
Responsible for all facility-related equipment and systems: electric utility, air compressors, boiler, hazardous waste
Prioritizes and completes assigned maintenance tasks and delegates to subordinates
Ensures maintenance employees are following safe work practices and procedures consistently and completely
Demonstrates a keen ability in using a systematic and scientific approach to solving problems through known analysis and methodologies
Excellent problem-solving skills and resourcefulness
Knowledge of the application of Lean Manufacturing, TPM and 5S methods
Safely operates a variety of machine-shop equipment to fabricate components using OEM specs, drawings or sketches while utilizing precision measuring tools
Computer literate in MS applications: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Must have experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical systems and controls
Strong ability to properly diagnose electrical component failures and provide solutions
Basic PLC and VFD experience
Team player with ability to build lasting productive business relationships with hourly associates, management, and peers
Effectively communicates information both verbally and in writing
Strong mechanical and electrical analytical skills required
Expert level experience in LOTO systems required
Monitors and controls maintenance operating costs
Review repairs for quality or workmanship.
Improve existing plant and bag equipment to improve efficiency or reduce costs
Coordinate outside contractor work from bid acquisition to construction
Interact with outside machine shops to fabricate machine parts
Coordinate plant projects, design and development, overhauls, machine relocations, etc.
Participate in machine troubleshooting and repair when necessary
Coordinate with production manager, machine modifications to improve productivity
Adhere to all plant Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety standard operating procedures (SOPs). Follow all Food Contact Packaging Safety requirements as outline in the SQF Quality Manual.
Participate in accident investigations
Development and implementation of machine guarding systems
Participate in conducting required annual training of plant personnel (lockout/tagout, confined space, fire extinguisher, Hazmat, etc.)
Assist with all environmental issues
Liaison for State or Federal Inspectors, Local Fire Department & Insurance inspections, including annual boiler inspections
Conduct screening and interviews for new hires.
Assist plant management in any other area as needed
Responsible for plant’s paste (glue operation) and all bag machines
Regular contact with employees from productions, printing, administrative, and maintenance departments. Contact with outside contractors, insurance companies, regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, AIB, ASI), water and sewer departments, (city) utility companies, fire marshal and vendors on an as needed basis or by direction of the Plant Manager.
Education and Experience:
Degree in Facilities Management or Technical Maintenance Management preferred
Five years plant maintenance work experience is required
Demonstrated supervisory and draftsman experience required
Requires an individual with excellent knowledge of machinery, manufacturing equipment and building maintenance in order to complete complex repairs and direct employees in their work.
Requires strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics and lubrication. Must be able to calculate gear ratios, pitch, etc. and be able to operate all machine shop equipment
Requires individual with excellent electrical and mechanical knowledge in order to differentiate between the problems and make correct decisions on how to repair.
