Website NEW Media, Inc.
NEW Media is not looking for simple reporters, but instead seeks hungry storytellers — talented journalists who know how to seize someone’s attention with carefully developed words, take eye-catching photographs and develop attention-grabbing videos in a news environment where digital comes first.
NEW Media publishes the Shawano Leader, the Oconto County Times Herald and the Wittenberg Enterprise and Birnamwood News weekly, but it also keeps communities in three counties and beyond informed daily through its website, www.newmedia-wi.com, and social media.
Working with NEW Media gives journalists experience in covering Native American tribes, the heart of America’s agriculture, education at the K-12 and collegiate levels, courts and crime, municipal governments, community festivals, arts and entertainment — the list goes on. The right person will also be able to tell the stories of individuals that call northeast Wisconsin home, from aspiring authors to Native American cultural warriors to longtime nurses to eager entrepreneurs to talented musicians.
In addition to telling the run-of-the-mill stories, NEW Media also puts out a number of specialty publications. Our pride and joy is the Green and Gold Express, which covers the Green Bay Packers, but there are also monthly pages dedicated to senior living, along with a summer fun magazine, sections dedicated to Pulaski Polka Days and the two county fairs in our coverage area, and much more.
NEW Media prides itself on being the paper of record for Shawano, Menominee and Oconto counties. We tell the stories that aren’t told by other media outlets and provide the facts that can’t be found on social media. We’re seeking someone versatile in what they cover, can turn stories around quickly, and is able to take on assignments from editors but can also sniff out stories on their own.
A journalism degree is recommended, but someone with equivalent newspaper experience is just as likely to grab our attention. Photography skills are a must, and experience with shooting and editing videos could bring you to the front of the line. Other experience that could pique our interest include editing news copy, laying out pages and covering sporting events.
For immediate consideration, send a resume, cover letter introducing yourself and four to six samples of your work to Warren Bluhm, editor-in-chief, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Put “Storyteller” in the header.
