RECREATION TRAILS
MOUNTAIN BAY TRAIL The Mountain Bay Trail is a former 83-mile railroad corridor between Green Bay and Wausau. The Shawano County portion is 51 miles between the Villages of Pulaski and Eland. It is used for hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, snowmobiling and ATV use.
WIOUWASH STATE TRAIL The WIOUWASH State Trail and the Mountain Bay Trail intersect in the Village of Eland. The Shawano County portion of the WIOUWASH State Trail is 23 miles between Split Rock and the Village of Aniwa. Yearly trail passes are available at the Shawano Country Chamber Office, 1263 S. Main St., Shawano.

SHAWANO SCHOOL DISTRICT COMMUNITY EDUCATION Shawano Community High School's pool and weight room is open for public use after school hours for nominal fees. The pool is handicapped accessible and offers open swim, swimming lessons for youth and adults as well as water aerobic classes. The weight room has modern exercise machines, free weights, and more. Facility rental is available to the public. A large variety of leisure/hobby classes are offered. MAPLE HILLS GOLF COURSE Maple Hills is located three miles east of Wittenberg on Hwy 29. The 9-hole course is situated on rolling hills and has two water holes and a trout stream running though the golf course. Men's par is 36 and ladies par is 37. The large attractive clubhouse includes a full liquor bar and a dining room serving food to the public several nights per week, but is frequently reserved for private banquets and receptions on Saturday. 715/253-2448

NAVARINO NATURE CENTER Located 10 miles south of Shawano is the 15,000-acre Navarino Wildlife Area. The center features exhibits and meeting space. Outside there are 14 miles of trails for hiking, bird watching, and nature exploring. In winter the trails are groomed for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. SNOWMOBILING
With over 400 miles of groomed and marked snowmobile trails that wind through majestic forests and scenic meadows, Shawano Country is a snowmobiler's paradise. ATV's can be used on most of the trails when the temperature is below 28 degrees and when snowmobile trails are open. Local sport shops have snowmobiles and ATV's for rent. WATER SPORTS
Shawano Country's many lakes, rivers and streams, are ideal for water sports. SHAWANO LAKE, the county's largest, is 6,063 acres and available for all types of boating. Kayakers, white water rafters and canoeists alike enjoy the RED RIVER near Gresham. Rafters especially enjoy the Red River from the Gresham dam to Ziemer's Falls, or another ½ mile to the Red River landing. The WOLF RIVER is also popular with rafters.
FISHING
Shawano Lake is one of the top fishing lakes in the state and is over 6,000 acres. It features Muskie, Northern, Walleye, Crappie, Perch, Rock Bass, Large Mouth and Small Mouth Bass, Bluegill and Bullhead. The area has many other lakes-visit the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce for a complete listing.
